RBM Y ALMA REFUERZAN SU APOYO A GUINEA ECUATORIAL EN LA ELIMINACIÓN DEL PALUDISMO-VISION 2030

On Monday, the Ministry of Health and Health Infrastructure welcomed a high-level delegation from the RBM Partnership to End Malaria and the Alliance of African Leaders Against Malaria (ALMA) as part of a working visit aimed at strengthening collaboration and support for Equatorial Guinea in its efforts to eliminate malaria.

The delegation is led by Dr. Charles Adekunle, Chair of the RBM Partnership to End Malaria; H.E. Aminata Cessouma, Chair of the ALMA Board of Directors; and Ms. Monique Ruyange, Senior Malaria Officer at ALMA.

During the meeting with the Minister of Health and Health Infrastructure, the delegation acknowledged the progress made by Equatorial Guinea in reducing the burden of malaria and highlighted the country’s demonstrated commitment to scaling up control and elimination interventions nationwide.

Dr. Charles highlighted the positive trend in national indicators and reaffirmed RBM’s willingness to continue providing technical guidance and support for resource mobilization, in coordination with national and international partners.

For her part, H.E. Aminata Cessouma highlighted Equatorial Guinea’s leadership in the fight against malaria and noted ALMA’s interest in continuing to work with the country to strengthen its elimination efforts and raise the profile of the progress achieved at the continental level.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to review upcoming areas of collaboration, including strengthening the National Malaria Elimination Plan – Vision 2030, updating the national indicators for the ALMA Scorecard, mobilizing resources, and supporting upcoming national interventions, including the mass distribution of mosquito nets.

Opportunities for collaboration regarding new tools for malaria prevention and elimination were also discussed, including the potential introduction of the R21 vaccine, as well as Equatorial Guinea’s participation in high-level African Union forums scheduled for 2027.

The visit by RBM and ALMA reaffirms both platforms’ commitment to supporting Equatorial Guinea in consolidating the progress made and in mobilizing the technical, political, and financial support needed to advance toward malaria elimination.

Over the next few days, the delegation will continue its work agenda in Equatorial Guinea, including institutional meetings with national authorities and follow-up activities with the technical teams responsible for the malaria response.
