On Wednesday, the Minister of Health and Health Infrastructure held a working meeting with consultants from the RBM Partnership to End Malaria and ALMA, who are supporting the planning process for the upcoming distribution of mosquito nets in the Continental Region and Annobón, as part of Equatorial Guinea’s Malaria Elimination Plan – Vision 2030.
During the meeting, they reviewed the progress made in collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program (PNLP), with support from the UNDP and other technical partners, including MCD Global Health. The macro-level planning is well underway, and work will continue throughout November, with a special focus on finalizing the micro-plans, staff training, logistics, digitization, management mechanisms, and the communication efforts necessary for the rollout.
This process complements other steps already taken to prepare for the intervention. These include the delivery to the PNLP of 500,000 mosquito nets destined for the Mainland Region and Annobón, as well as a technical tour conducted to assess the conditions of available storage facilities in the various districts.
The Minister emphasized that all these actions are part of the progressive implementation of the Malaria Elimination Plan – Vision 2030, which aims to strengthen prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and vector control interventions to move toward the elimination of the disease in the country.
He also directed that close coordination be maintained between the PNLP, the relevant General Directorates, technical partners, and district-level structures, so that the pending components can be completed and submitted to the Ministry’s validation mechanisms, including the Executive Board.
The teams will continue to work intensively to ensure that all necessary technical, logistical, and operational conditions are in place. Once planning is complete and the corresponding validations have been obtained, distribution could take place between late 2026 and early 2027.
Technical assistance from RBM and ALMA will continue throughout November, supporting the national team in finalizing the next phases of preparation for the upcoming distribution in the Continental Region and Annobón.
